I think about a world to come where the books were found by the golden ones, written in pain, written in awe by a puzzled man who questioned, "What are we here for?" All the strangers came today and it looks as though they're here to stay.

Hailee Steinfeld
Actress Hailee Steinfeld. You may recognize her as Mattie Ross from True Grit. Steinfeld's performance was so outstanding that I'm prepared to declare her the best actress of 2010 in the same way that I declared Max Records the best actor of 2009 for his role as Max in Where the Wild Things Are. That a fourteen-year-old girl could deliver such a complex character, bold and courageous and yet no more than a kid, is the most astounding cinematic feat of 2010. She's been nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Oscars, which is frustrating, because to me she was clearly THE lead of True Grit over heavy hitters like Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon and Josh Brolin. I will be more frustrated if she doesn't get the Oscar (and the children rarely do!). Here's to hoping, though.
