Spoiler Alert: True Blood S04E12

It's the season finale of True Blood, and that means that for the first time in weeks I'm going to get a "Spoiler Alert" article finished before the next episode airs. I just have to publish this some time between now and next June/July...

1. Lafayette is the Protagonist

Did anyone else feel like Lafayette was the main character this season? It's never really Sookie. All she ever really does is have sex, scream and complain about how complicated her life is. And Amy told me, basically when I started watching the show, that Lafayette was an unimportant character that they got rid of in the first or second book. (NOTE: That's about all I know about what the books hold. I think Amy read the first one and maybe the second one. I do not intend to let the books affect how I watch the show though, and certainly not how we discuss True Blood on this blog.)

Some really big things happen in Lafayette's life in the finale. First of all, Lafayette-Marne steals Jesus's demon powers and in the process murder him.

Second of all, Lafayette's cousin Tara promises that they will get through these problems together, and then she goes off and gets shot while protecting Sookie from an insane, V-driven, jealous were wolf. And the shot looks to be a head shot too. I don't know that Tara can come back from this one.

Finally, the spirit of Jesus appears to Lafayette at night, coyly saying that since Lafayette is a medium they never need to be apart. Since Lafayette's entire support system, Jesus and Tara, is completely destroyed, I predict two things: 1. Lafayette is going to be spending a whole lot of time at work in order to forget about his loss, and 2. his home time is going to be devoted to learning how to better control his powers so that he can see the ones he has lost.

2. Something Terry This Way Comes

An old military buddy of Terry's appears at Merlotte's. And if I'm not mistaken he called Terry "Robby Bellefleur." Maybe Robert is his real first name and he gets called Terry because his father's named Robert and his middle name is Terrence or something. Maybe I just misheard. Terry's has apparently saved his friend's life twice, and even after that he believed the friend to be dead.

If you combine the appearance of this mystery friend with my suspicions that Terry will soon go off of his anti-psychotics medications and become a villain of sorts for a little while, you've got something scary. As if that weren't enough, Rene pierces the veil between the living and the dead (because that's what happens on Halloween) in order to warn Arlene that something crappy is going to happen with Terry and that his past is going to catch up with him.

3. Pack Business

I'm not giving up on the whole idea that Alcide is now going to be the leader of the pack. Of course, he had better get to work, because it looks like there's at least one were-wolf who is not particularly happy with the fact that Sam killed the former pack leader Marcus.

Of course, Alcide is also concerned with having a good love life. Since he and Sookie keep making stupid decisions, he suggests that they get together because it is probably the smartest decision they could make. If you throw in the fact that Sookie essentially breaks up with both Bill and Eric, there might be a chance. Of course, there are a couple things he'll have to deal with. There's the fact that, as pack leader, his people might not approve of him dating outside of the werewolf species, and there's also the fact that Sookie murdered his ex.

And let's not forget the business phone call that Alcide gets while proposing to romance Sookie. Let's not forget because the matter of business has to do with the release of Russell Edgington, the greatest threat that vampire-human relations has ever faced. And considering that the American Vampire League's PR manager has been both fired and murdered, there might be hell to pay and nobody to clean it up.

4. No Fairies?

You know, when I saw Andy Bellefleur trying to make up with his little witchy woman dressed as a fairy I thought we'd see some more fairy action. As it turns out, the fact that we don't see any fairies may mean more. They're trying to make us forget about the fairies, about the breeding between Andy and a fairy woman, and about the fact that Andy has sworn allegiance to that particular fairy. They're building a fire, and most of us are going to forget about it until we're burned. As for me: I never forget.

5. No Panthers?

You know, when I saw Jessica leave Jason's place and heard someone at the door, I expected to see the panther woman and to find out that even though Jason is not a were-panther he still has business with the were-panthers. Isn't he going to be a father soon after all? Won't he feel responsible for the children regardless of the fact that he was raped? Of course, it was everyone's favorite minister, and now he's a vampire. Will he still be a vampire hater or will he now be a human hater? I really have no idea where this plot is going to go, but maybe it'll push Maxine to see that she's a hypocrite and begin treating people right.

See you next year! But before then we'll have some things to talk about regarding Fringe this month and Dexter next month. Stick around.
