Kindergarten Cop (1990)

I think that 1990 is probably the best year for Arnold Schwarzenegger films. On the first of June, Total Recall came out in theaters, and on the twenty-first of December Kindergarten Cop came out. Now, this wasn't the first time that two Schwarzenegger films came out in one year. In 1979, Schwarzenegger was in both The Villain and Scavenger Hunt. In 1984, he was in both Conan the Destroyer and The Terminator. In 1985, both Red Sonja and Commando. As a matter of fact, Schwarzenegger would release multiple films a year eight times in his entire career. But in 1990, he released two of his absolute best movies, and I don't mean because of camp or comedy. Both Total Recall and Kindergarten Cop had substance and they wove a smart story. The only film to do this successfully before 1990 was The Terminator, and though Schwarzenegger played the title character he really wasn't the focus of the story. The year 1990 makes me incredibly happy that I started doing Arnold 365. You've seen a lot of clips on this blog, but make sure you watch more than just the clips when it comes to Total Recall and Kindergarten Cop. It will make your soul a better place.
