Joss Whedon's Astonishing X-Men

From 2004 to 2008, Joss Whedon and John Cassaday commandeered a revamp of the Astonishing X-Men book for Marvel Comics. After twenty-four issues followed by Giant-Sized Astonishing X-Men #1, Whedon and Cassaday concluded their run together, leaving us with one of the best X-Men storylines that has ever existed, comparable in brilliance to the Phoenix and Dark Phoenix sagas. I've personally read every single issue of every X-Men related title from 1963 through the late 80's, and I've concluded that the most psychologically interesting characters that have ever been created are Scott Summers/Cyclops and Kitty Pryde/Shadow Cat, both of whom are integral and amazingly developed characters in the Whedon/Cassaday stories. Astonishing X-Men is an easily accessible book that rewards readers who know a great deal about the past of these characters. It's a wild ride from beginning to end. I'd definitely suggest picking up this comic.
